Default V70 P3 EGR Blanking

Howdy Folks
At the researching phase of blanking off the EGR in my 2011 D5 (MY2012, D5244T15 215hp), and I've found very little online regarding doing this to the Euro5 Engine, loads for the older P2 model. There is loads on here regarding the cleaning and maintenance of them but I would rather eliminate the problem altogether and stop plumbing the nasty (S**T) exhaust air back through the inlet manifold & engine.

Has anyone done this to a P3?
Is there a good reason why no one else seems to have done this??
(I have a reputable Tuner/Mapper available to eliminate the EGR's function out of the ECU and also realise I'll get some hate on here for wanted to blank it ha! )

I think the reason no one has done it is because while EGRs can be a ballache they are very good at reducing nitrous oxides, and these have fairly recently been discovered to have a seriously detrimental effect to human health. If the engine is maintained properly and on time, and driven properly (ie, not used regularly for journeys under 7 miles) then they're quite reliable.

But to answer your question, anyone capable of writing a performance map should be equally capable of writing out the EGR software so you can blank it, but it's getting harder to find firms who are willing to do that now.

Thanks for the info, I hadn’t really considered the consequences of blanking it, I’d be interested to see how much of an effect it makes to the NOX levels, out of curiosity.
I just hate the thought of all that being recirculated, restricting & blocking everything.
I am also looking into fitting a catch can on the PCV line between the crankcase & intake pipe, every little helps in my mind.

My egr valve quit on my 2009 xc70 a few days ago. To be able to move around a bit I closed it off and put a scanner on it. It seemed fine except for the higher, ~150 degrees exhaust temps. I’m not comfortable with that. It got over 500 degrees at some point and that’s way too high for me when the norm is 250-300. It’s one thing to drive on the freeway at 80mph and having a regen cycle with 6-700 degrees happening but I don’t like sitting in bumper to bumper traffic with a glowing red dpf in a tight engine compartment.

So yeah, all the egr blocking benefits you hear about come with a price...
