Default V70 D3 P1407 EGR fault code

My 2016 V70 D3 threw a warning code recently, which turned out to be P1407. I have the Torque app, which came up with this:

MID: $31 TID: $90
EGR Monitor Bank 1
Min 0% Max 80.011%
Current 100.006%

I discussed this with my local independent workshop, we both searched the web, and decided that it was more likely sensor failure than the actual valve. They changed the DPF sensor (I think this is the differential pressure one), but the fault returned the next day.

The most relevant thread I can find on the forum is:
Just had EGR fault P1407 D3 163
and this suggests changing the Boost Pressure sensor under the intercooler. This is said to be an easy job, but I cannot even find the intercooler! The thread refers to an S60 - is the V70 likely to be the same in this respect?

A bit more info:
I set up a dashboard in Torque showing Boost, Intake pressure, and EGR Error. Running the engine at various speeds showed that each was delivering live data. Critically, EGR Error always returned quickly to near zero after a change in engine speed. The engine was not under load here, but this does suggest that the EGR valve is working.

Can anyone tell me which sensor drives the "MID: $31 TID: $90" values?

Thanks

Andrew

Which D3 engine is this? I'm assuming it's a VEA from the year, but I'm not sure... the one in the link would be an older 5-cylinder engine.

I've always checked boost sensors by checking that they read ~100kPa with the engine stopped.

It is certainly 5-cyl and the registration document says 1984cc.

Good idea, though I suspect there might be an intermittent fault here. I'll give it a try anyway.

Thanks

Try another app, you will get over 150 sensors for D3 engine, including intake manifold absolut pressure, DPF pressure, EGR commanded and EGR actual position sensor: Car Scanner ELM OBD2
Set up you car in Settings/Connection/Choose connection profile: "Volvo P3 2008+"

This is EGR monitor bank 1 (can be displayed in Car Scanner in Noncontinuous Monitors menu)

Hi Andrew,

Have you get the P1407 problem solved?

I am facing the same problem now on a 5 cylinder V60.

Default Did anyone get to the bottom of this? Same issue V70 2012

My 2012 5-cylinder D4 163 is bringing up the error code P1407 EGR temp too low (or something like that, can't remember the exact phrase). Its done 144,000 miles and has already had a new EGR valve before (at 65,000 miles). My concern is that it was the same code last time I had the valve replaced and reading the comments over the last few years I think my Volvo dealer might have had me over. I had to get it done with them as no one else wanted to touch it on the 24 hours notice I had to work with (ferry booked for holiday). They said "definately EGR" but less than 12 hours after collecting it I got a fault light again and had to get the car looked at by a dealer in France who immediately diagnosed it as a faulty intercooler boost sensor. Replaced that for 100 Euro job done and fine ever since. There was a lot less forum chat back then (2015) so now I'm wondering if there actually was an EGR fault at all last time or whether they just changed it as a matter of course. The car wasn't used for short runs at the time and still isn't. It's regularly serviced and doesn't appear to run "dirty" so my inner cynic is a bit worried about giving Volvo carte blanche to raid my wallet again, particularly as they have indicated around £900 to do the work (car is worth about £3000 as a part ex now but obviously worth more to me as it's mint other than a fault light). My local Volvo independent wasn't particularly interested in even looking at it last time as I was told changing the EGR on these was a pig of a job ie more hassle than it's worth.

If it is genuinely a 5-cylinder D3 then I don’t understand how it can be a 2016 vehicle since the 5-cylinder engine was discontinued two years earlier.

Strange!

Mine also has this coming up occasionally now it's being driven again - EGR low/no flow detected.
Early August I cleaned the EGR in situ as best I could (just as preventative maintenance), at least so the rod inside was free of gunk on and around it.

I also had a TMAP boost sensor pop up a few days after the EGR message. I changed that in 2018 roughly 40k miles ago, I doubt that's faulty but it could be. I'll see if I can check it with VIDA when I have time.

I've read a few posts that reference the DPF pressure sensor could be at fault. I've never had that replaced so I'm tempted to replace that first. 2012 D3 5 cylinder, just clocked over 140k miles.

Prior to these errors I was getting turbo overboost errors, I think that's resolved since I replaced the turbo actuator/valve that lives at the back of the engine bay with 2 hoses small going into it.

So my fault is back again.
I cleared them all, we have the EGR no flow and turbocharger performance code. Fault trace for the EGR suggests fixing any turbo related codes first, would people recommend the TMAP again?
This is a case of having software and not knowing how to use it to its full potential, any direction appreciated.
