Default How long will a 2010 XC90 last?

I have a Volvo D5 XC90 Auto 185 that has 84K on the clock. I am considering getting rid as it likes a drink. (30MPG)

As I have no crystal ball of the what the future may hold I am apprehensive of keeping it. It is 10 years old next month. It now needs a cambelt replacement so about 370 quid. In past couple of years replaced all tyres, battery, swirl repair, all brakes done and had DPF sensor issues.

To be fair to the car since end of August it's been ok. I have never had a car with miles anywhere near this so it's unknown territory for me. I can keep up payments on car but would be a bit knackered if anything expensive went.

I could get a more efficient car like a Seat Alhambra but then that is going to cost me 6K on top of the vovlo at present.

Is it likely I will have an issue with it now it's getting on a bit age-wise?

I don't know about the XC90 specifically, 'mprcomp', but in general 84K and 10 years is nothing for a Volvo assuming that it has been conscientiously maintained.

The following may inspire confidence. My wife bought a 744 Auto at 10 years with 180K up. She went on to run the car - essentially trouble free - for a further 16 years taking it to well over a quarter of a million miles. Many have done much more!

If your car is in good nick and you're happy with it I'd keep it - you can buy a lot of fuel for six grand!

Regards, John.

It's absolutely no age for a Volvo, mprcomp, particularly if it has been well maintained. if you are tired of it and just want something newer then go for it. XC90's are not particularly well known for fuel efficiency but you could do a number of things to improve on it if you want to keep it.

Well-looked after it will outlive most other makes of vehicle out there.

Many Volvo owners keep the same car for years and years on end........it's generally not the same with the likes of Range Rovers, BMWs etc most of which seem to die quite quickly after certain age and mileage...........

Our XC90 is currently a 54 plate (2004/5) with 252k miles on and only now at the point where its not worth keeping going once anything big goes. 84k miles is nothing and even 10 years old is nothing now. Some rubber parts may need replacing due to age but you have a car you know the history off where as unless you get something brand new you will be getting an unknow.

Our 2005 XC90 D5 has 250k miles on it and we are planning to take it for a roadtrip this summer with 3,7k miles ahead.

2010 XC90 with 84k is NOTHING. We've had and have other luxury cars but the XC90 is my favourite

I bought mine with 68k and its about to tick over 100k.

I had a haldex pump replaced at £400 under warranty and other than that it’s been discs, pads, fluid and regular servicing. The xc90 is mechanically exceptionally easy to work on, the cambelt and aux belt are one of the easier to do (I did mine).

My advice would be to really look into the YouTube vids and work on it yourself. Oils and filter is £70 genuine Volvo if you do it yourself and all the other stuff is pretty easy.

I love mine at at 100k really expect the same again. That said, if I were not willing to work on it myself I would get rid.

Yeah, to be fair with the three kids I don't have time to work on it and not something I want to do really(Safety). I am very impressed by those that do.

I think it also needs wheel bearing done so I think with cambelt may need about 600 pounds of work. It also needs leather sorting as it's Active and some parts are starting to fail.

At 80k miles is when it starts to need new parts: suspension, wheel bearings, timing belt, other wear parts such as a blower resistor and so on. It's going to need attention, not much but still. I don't think it will leave you stranded though. You can safe good money buying the genuine parts from the companies that make them for Volvo, and have them installed by an independent Volvo specialist.

It's the age-old conundrum. Personally I'd keep it - you know the history and have spent money on it. Changing to a different car means potentially inheriting trouble. How many used cars advertised as having the cambelt changed actually have for example??

Last summer we took our 180,000 miler 2006 XC90 D5 auto on a 6 week holiday from Yorkshire to Athens and back.

With no qualms about worrying about reliability.

It was a perfect vehicle for such a trip for 5 of us.

For the MOT in November it failed for the headlamps needing a polish and a worn track rod end - IE next to nothing.

We intend keeping this for a few more years.
