Volvo S40 headlight problem
Volvo S40 headlight problem (Volvo 1996)
I have replaced the standard Volvo S40 headlights (H4). For the headlights of a Volvo v40 (H7). Now my left and right indicator lights do not work anymore. If I disconnect the new headlights, the left and right indicator lights will do it again. What could possible be the problem? Can there be no H7 headlights in the Volvo S40 or is it something else. Thank you for your help and thank you in advance. |

What year was the donor car? If it was anything after 1999, the wiring is radically different. I don't know about the S40, but on the V40 the earlier models were switched on their negative side of the bulb. The later ones are switched on the positive side.

If you've put phase 2 lights in a phase 1 car, which I suspect you have, then the indicator wiring would remain unchanged, you wouldnt be able to change the indicators between phases anyway as they don't physically fit eachother, when I put p2 lights in my p1 I left the wiring on the car intact and made a small wiring loom that plugged into the H4 socket and then into the new lights connector, everything worked as it should apart from not being able to have full beam and dipped beam on at the same time, when I switched to full the dipped ones went out, it can be made to work but you need an extra relay for that.

Switching to hi beam and dipped go out may be resolved by putting a diode (electronic shop) from the high beam pointing to the dipped. As you turn on the hi beam the currend will flow passing the diod and dipped will light up.When driving dipped the current is blocked direction hi beam.Cost only a few cents .Just ask for a diode that can handle the current for the H7.
