Default Small scratches and Swirls

I washed mine this weekend and noticed a couple of mild scratches on the bonnet and wing and also swirls in the paint work.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of he scrtaches? Am I right in thinking we are not meant to polish the cars as it may damage the paint? So a cuting compound like T-cut would also be a no-no?

Does the claybar help with scratches and swirls?

Also, any suggestions on how to clean the various bits of chrome trim on the car? I can't seem to get rid of water marks off them?

cheers

They are called RDS (random deep scratch). You'll need to have it mopped and sealed by a decent detailer.

Don’t use a clay bar unless you intend to have it polished after. The clay will add scratches and is only intended to decontaminate.

I use Meguiars Ultimate Compound and it is very gentle and has not damages any of my metallic finishes
Very good on bird dropping stains

The chrome window trim marks is an issue and I have seen some posts etc where they have been replaced under warranty

Managed to get mine washed on Saturday too.

Car is a week old and hasn't been used much due to COVID19 but it was suffering with the treatment they'd used on the tyres being sprayed up the sides of the car.

A quick snowfoam and 2BM wash followed by a new product that i'd not used before. Autobrite Ceramic Magiseal which you apply in the same way to snowfoam then just rinse off.

It's supposed to protect the paintwork for 2months so i'll have to report back but it went on really easily and the car certainly felt easy to dry.

I wonder what that will do to your windows?...

I’ve been using Meguires Hybrid Ceramic Wax and Turtle Wax Seal and Shine - Both are spray on/rinse off and work a treat, but make a mess of the glass.

A lot of wastage I would imagine with snow foam too?

I'll let you know - the car's not moved since it was washed and dried.

Worst case, it needs a glass cleaner after application. It was certainly quick and easy to apply and I needed to get some protection on there.

Different product to snow foam - no cleaning properties in this, just an easy way to apply some protection.

All I know is - the wheels on this one are going to be tougher to keep clean compared to the last one

No before shots as I'm mid progress, but spent the last two days on the girlfriend's stepdad's XC90 so far. He thought it was look pretty decent but the detailer in me was crying inside at all the swirls from the local car wash, and with it being a weekend car it's spent a lot of time under a cover to try and reduce bird bomb on it, which has had an abrasive effect. So far so good, it's had a full wash, chemical decontamination, and clay bar. Then all of today has been spent with the DA polisher and compound... Started with a medium polish from Menzerna (highly recommended!), but that barely touched the rock hard Volvo top coat, so out came the compound / one step which is much better. It's rated 8/10 for gloss by Menzerna, so whilst I'd refine it with medium and then finishing polish if it was mine, I'm aware it needs to be done by Wednesday! But,*he's already over the moon with the results I've achieved and I've not even got any wax on it yet, so tomorrow's job is to do some final polishing of the bumpers and boot when my smaller pads arrive in the post, and get a good coat of Soft99 Fusso Dark Coat on it.
