Default Alarm Sounder

Hi,
I have just replaced the alarm sounder on my XC90. Now when I bought the sounder direct from Volvo it came with a bonnet catch? Not sure why but the instructions within the box show replacing them both? Is this actually normal? do they both need to be replaced? I have done the sounder and it seems to be working fine now. One last thing.....The instructions also say that the sounder replacement will require a software update? Again is this required?
Regards Eric

Hi, I replaced mine about 3 years ago. The replacement bonnet catch is still in its box. No software update when I did it although the instructions indicated it needed it. Of course you have to reset the error code.

No issues for last three years.

Hope this helps.

The bonnet catches are notorious for failing due to ingress of road grime and moisture, and thus triggering the alarm.

The replacement catch is likely an improved more reliable design, and replacing it would be a proactive maintenance item to prevent future false alarms.
