Default Spring clamps

Hi everyone.
Looking like I need to replace the N/S/F top mount on my 2003 V40 diesel.
I don't have a problem ding the job myself, just need to know what type of spring clamps to use.
Will the cheapy ones off ebay do the job?

I wouldn't go too cheap, as your life depends on them, when under full tension, a clamped spring is a weapon.

Good ones aren't too expensive.

I have some Neilson ones I've used a few times for various jobs. They aren't bad. Not great but better than using cable ties!

Got a set off Amazon I think, work well enough just remember you will be seriously hurt if you get hit by the spring coming off, best tips are to make sure you wind them down evenly, only as far as you need to and keep it pointed away from you and anybody else it could hurt

I used ones similar to these once. Didn't feel safe in the slightest, as they just refused to hold onto both of the hooks securely. As if the spring was too small, just kept dangling on one hook. Would have really preferred sturdier single hook ones.

I have a set of Hilka heavy duty spring compressors that came from screwfix I think.

They have the two hooks. The mistake I made was trying to put them on straight. They fit better at slight angle. Just put them on, do them up a bit and then wriggle them back an forward until the clamps sit nicely.

I've never been worried that they would slip off.

Its not easy and it's a bit of a faff. If there is any doubt in your mind or your clamps don't fit properly then take them off and start again as something is not right.

Not a job for the feint hearted or those not practically minded. If in doubt, seek some experienced help!

The problem with those clamps is the twin hooks are fixed. Sykes Pickavant make twin hook ones, but the hooks swivel so they fit the spring snuggly.

its terrifying! nearly took my head off when they lost grip. id say use 4 if you are skimping out. two have a tendency to slip around from opposite sides so they end up next to each other and give you a heart attack. you can purchase clamps which have a bar between them to stop this happening. Really i would get some nice ones if you can afford it.
