Err, that's stylish. Not sure how a silver 240 compares to that!

Hi all, new to the forum and Volvo's. I'm 28 and have just bought a 2006 XC90 SE Sport d5, moved from a seat Exeo St Sport, (Audi A4 B7 chassis running gear etc for those that don't know), owned 2 Saab's a 1997 9-5 SE fully loaded prototype apparently (miss that car did 40k in 7 months in that car only needed a crank seal which took 20 mins to repair and cost £6 and a set of tyres in that time) and a 2003 9-3ss (the 9-3 lacking in material quality and repairability compared to the earlier 9-5 GM to thank for that) missed the solid feel and the all weather ability of the Swedish machines. After several months looking for a replacement to the Seat Exeo and a 4x4 the XC90 post 2005 so far seems to tick all the boxes and safe as houses.

I'm 40 and drive a 940 and V70. See below ˅˅˅˅˅˅˅˅˅˅˅˅. I inherited the 940 from my mum and dad (as they had "upgraded" to a P3 V70) when my much much newer Peugeot 307SW gave up the ghost with major engine problems - the 940 was not my first choice at the time but I didn't have a lot of cash for another car and the 940 was free - I have since grown to love it and was pleased when the 940 sailed though it's last MOT at the beginning of December with no advisories. A couple of years ago I later bought the V70 for my wife (The picture below is the day we stole/collected it). Both get used every day. I despise the turning circle of the V70 and the 940 is more practical in that it can carry more than to V70 but I love everything else about it and its the go too car where motorway miles are concerned.

I'm 37, based on the Dorset/Somerset border. I drive a 1990 740 GL saloon and a 1993 240 Torslanda estate. Both B200F/M47.

Love my 940.
Hi guys,
I’m 73 now and at last fully retired and living in sunny Blyth in Northumberland. I’ve had my 1992 940 estate since 2005 when I spotted it in the corner of the main dealer’s garage whilst our daughter was checking out a V40. It was a trade in waiting to go to auction and bought as seen with 100,000 on the clock. It was standing next to a 240 which I first fancied but that was a saloon and I wanted an estate. I preferred the shape of the 200 series but as the 940 was available I bought it and have never regretted it. I first fell in love with Volvos when I drove a 140 saloon as a police traffic patrol car back in the 70s. It was then replaced by a 240 saloon. Later to be replaced with a Ford Granada 3.0L. The Granada was certainly faster but the Volvo had a much better turning circle. The local undertaker had a 240 estate as his personal car and could often be seen with two empty coffins in the back with the back seats folded down. At least it was presumed that they were empty. I was running a Triumph Herald estate at the time but wanted a Volvo. I moved on to a Morris Marina estate but still wanted a Volvo and eventually got one. It has a much better turning circle than our daughter’s front wheel drive XC70 and a much better load area than the latest so called Volvo estates. Give me rear wheel drive every time. It has assisted in a couple of house moves and is the car of choice when someone has a fridge or washing machine to move. It now has 220,000 on the clock. My family have said that they will bury me in it instead of a coffin. It will need an awfully big hole. |

Now 85. Ex 740 (scrapped) 2000 V70 (almost given away!) now splashed out on 2018 V60 T4 SE Lux Nav Auto. Got fed up and too old to crawl around under cars. The salesman said ‘put the petrol in, do anything else the display tells me and I should not need to open the bonnet.) So far, so good, except that I reversed the near side mirror into a car park concrete post - new mirror and some door scratches £1100!
Nice car but some regrets losing the V70. Should perhaps have gone for a late model V70. Also have a 2005 Audi A4 Avant used for knocking around and the tip, so I still end up doing maintenance. Bashing the mirror on that one cost me £20 on EBay for a replacement.
