V70 D5 battery choice
My 10 year old (Volvo original) battery is getting tired (has let me down once and is 12.4v at rest today after charging with battery charger yesterday). Car is charging at just under 14v btw. Anyway, FRF Swansea will do the official V70 D5/ 2.4D battery for £96 but aren't allowed to deliver so that's out. The spec. is 800 CCA (cold cranking amps). However ECP (which I'll probably use) say the recommended battery model showing on their system is (for Bosch say) type 110 which is smaller and rated at 80aH/ 720 CCA and is £88.80. The 800 CCA Bosch model is type 019 and is £104.40. So, what to do? The smaller battery will start it, I'm sure but maybe it's wise to stick with the 800 CCA recommended one. I'd welcome your opinions on this/ what others have bought themselves and how they've performed.

FRF's price is good but same issue for me so I just bought mine from my local main dealer for £120.
Your manual says 800 CCA so don't bother with anything below 800. You buy a battery on spec first then price.

Thanks, that makes sense, I was intending to get an 800CCA but was interested to know what others have done. I believe the main dealer one is a Varta which is OK I guess but the warranty is 3 years whereas Bosch give 4 (and Duracell, newer on the scene here, give 5 years). I have had batteries fail within warranty. Regards.

True, the genuine one has a 3 year warranty but as you've found, it should last not only beyond that but beyond even the longest guarantee from the alternatives.
From my research when buying mine, I'm almost certain the genuine one is a Yuasa who are part of Exide who have the Volvo contract. It also looks suspiciously identical to the one from Volvo and can be had for £88 http://www.hardwarexpress.co.uk/017-...FeVf2wod2JMDxQ

My v70s battery died luckily on the drive but on a weekend where the only place I could get one was the local tyre shop. For 80 pounds I got a banner starting bull battery, year on and it's still fine which is better than expected as it only does town runs mainly

Hi, could you please indicate the the battery dimensions for a V70 D5 2005 120kw 163ph?
I can 't understand if the Yuasa 353mm, Width = 175mm, Height = 190mm would fit it thanks |

Yes the D5 battery dimensions are 353 x 175 x 190 mm.
I personally went with Bosch S5 013 battery which is also branded as Varta Silver Dynamic (same factory supplies Bosch and Varta).

Yes indeed. That factory would be Varta. Varta stick labels on their own batteries for Bosch. The Bosch cost more due to Bosch being a middle-man adding a 'handling fee', and because people perceive Bosch as being 'better'.
