Default Belt like sqweall noise behind the dash.

Hi all interesting noise this evening that I've not heard before on our 2001 v70xc.

There is a belt like squeal coming from behind the dash.

It sounded like an belt pulley at 1st but ruled out the engine.

It comes on and off by itself.
I think it's linked to the heater control but does it with the ac on or off.
It's more obvious as a lower fan speed.

Any ideas?

I think it's the fan bearings. Mine does it in the cold.

Very common, some tried to remove the fan and spray it, but rather replace it because the seizing bearing is not accessible

My wife has a habit of closing off face vents and these can whistle terribly under the correct conditions.....
