Default weird n/s/f wheel operation when cold

Hi here is one for you s60 experts. When i go out first time in morning engine cold i pull away from junction on a right hand lock, my n/s/f seems to slip then knock twice then it is ok until the following morning. When it is cold it will do it again. Every morning. When it does it it is quite loud. Any ideas that could help me. James

What you have described there sounds like a classic 'wheel hop'.

Thanks for that i have never heard of wheel hop. I googled it very interesting, but would you not get it all the time instead of once from cold. Once it has done it it would be ok for the rest of the day. James

Could be just caused due to full lock, cold tyres scrabbling for grip and maybe too much power pulling away from the junction. I used to have a car that would do it now and then under certain circumstances. Could maybe a spring reseating itself for some reason. Not really an expert, just some random thoughts.

Curiosity would get the better of me if it was happening to me, have you tried pulling out the junction on a left hand lock to see if it occurs.

Given your S60 is the P2 have a look for axle ping in the tech thread for those.

I had a 2005 MY S60 D5 and remember having to replace the two stretch bolts that sit behind the wheel centre hub caps.

Hi problem solved when i turned right the F/N/S wheel would grip and bounce. Took it to my local garage there was a volvo guy working there said they would check it out. What they found the virtical tracking on the front left was way out and that was what caused the problem, a couple of weeks ago i took my car to Halfords to have the tracking done on their all dancing machine, that should have picked up the virtical aliment so much for technology or operator training.

Well the sarga continues i still had a problem took it back to garage they had it for a couple of days. This is what they found and replaced, 2 inner steering track arms, front antiroll bar links. 2 lower wishbone arms and bushes, 2 suspension arm lower. Tracking. Problem is now fully cured total cost £750. I can't complain had car for 15year at little cost to me. All tha surprised me is this was not picked up when serviced and MOT. James

Sounds like they changed everything in hope rather than diagnose the problem. Certainly my worn anti roll bar links were pointed out to me at service. I changed them myself useing febi Bilstien links at £14 each rather than volvo at £36 each.

Paul.

You are probably right it was the suspension arm lower the finely cured the problem they were £112 each.
