Timing marks
My V70 2.4T engine is in bits due to blown head gasket rebuild will start when head comes backfrom skimming.
Can anyone comfirm timing marks on crankshaft pulley. Haynes manual says line up mark on pulley with oil pump housing mark but posible choice of two line up with first mark number 1 cylinder is just before tdc second mark is just after tdc, or should i ignor marks and set number 1 to tdc. |

There is only one proper mark that lines up with the mark in the lower cover it is quite a heavy line cast on the pulley side of the lower cambelt pulley it is not on the pulley itself but on the hub . This isnt TDC it is a safe position which allows you to turn the cams to line up . you will need a special tool to locate the camshafts in the correct position if you have taken off the camshaft pulleys as they are adjustable .

I have been looking at these marks for years but cant remember any confusion about the correct one , could you post a photo?
To be precise there is a VOLVO locking pin that goes in a hole in the block behind the starter motor , that locates the crank in exactly the right position which should correspond to the marks on the pulley/casing...
