I've never had a car that automatically goes back to normal operation after pressing the demist so I think the p2 doesnt do that, I've had 2x.

But I generally dont need to use the function so dont take my word for it

Without draining any coolant from anywhere I removed the two clips and released the metal pipes from the heater matrix. I lined the passenger footwell with a waterproof liner and with the aid of a small washing up bowl I managed to catch approximately 250ml of coolant with a little bit spilling on to the footwell liner. It was a lot less messy, and a lot less coolant than I was expecting.
The upper clip released without problem, but the lower clip pulls straight in to the path of plastic components in front of the heater matrix and the only way I could get it out was to bend it completely out of shape with pliers that have left it in a poor state so I will get a couple of new clips to re assemble with the new O rings.

I fitted the new O rings to the heater matrix today. A good spray with 3 in 1 silicone lubricant helped the pipes and O rings to seat properly in to the plastic sockets and a pair of long nose pliers helped push the new clips in. I had read lots of reports that the clips were very difficult to get in but the lube seemed to make seating the pipes in the sockets easy and it was not the battle I was expecting.

Good tip when doing such jobs, including draining central heating radiators ,is to use foil cooking dishes. they can be moulded round pipes to catch any escaping fluid.
