Default Key Fob draining battery

My key fob seems to be draining it's battery over the course of a few weeks.

I've tried a few new batteries in it and they are drained even when the fob is not being used, as I am using the spare fob now.

would appreciate any thoughts on the problem and how to sort it.

thanks

Iain

The only thing I can think of is that the contacts in the fob are dirty and passing a small amount of current/volts continuously and draining the battery over time.

I have seen some where the rubber contacts can stick to the circuit board part and cause problems.

If you can get at them give the contacts a clean.

thanks Whyman, the fob is only three and a half years old and the car has done just over 16000mls, pity it's out of warranty

Only just out of warranty but Volvo might offer a contribution or even give you a new fob. You could also try your dealer and see what they can sort out for you. Certainly it should not be draining the battery so something is wrong particularly at that age and very low mileage.

Mine are almost 6 years old at 80k and still on the original batteries.

I had a complete fob replaced on a Merc because the button had started to crack at just under 3 years.

I had a word with the dealer and they said a charge for diagnostics would be made and it would not be covered by Volvo.

£184 for a new fob from dealer.
