Cem replacement
I've a 2004 v70 d5 non runner and I believe the cem is faulty. I'm going to get one from a breaker and would be greatful if anyone could advise exactly what I will require to get it running. I know I need the cem the key and the ecm.
Anything else? Is the transponder ring coded?

I’ll ask the obvious question.
Why do you think the CEM is faulty? Have you had the car hooked up to Vida to see what is wrong? |

Next obvious question..... Assuming the CEM is indeed faulty, why not just have the original CEM refurbished by a CEM specialist?

No, not a third question but both are good ones. CEM is one of those parts that it seems it can't be swapped. https://xemodex.com/us/faqs/

Car was brought to me as a non runner. It's been to a few garages before me and they all have had a play with it and threw lots of parts at it with no obvious test method.
The owner said it hasn't run in a year now and all the other garages that gave up told him it was scrap! He said the car has sentimental value and even if the cost is greater than its value he would like to keep it. Problems started when it would intermittently cut out and not restart until the battery was dis connected and re connected. Eventually it just wouldn't restart. I can't get comms with the engine or abs units, ive tested all relays and fuses and seem to be getting power and grounds at all relevant places. It's my conclusion the cem has an internal fault or corrupted software. To muddy the water even more there's two ecm's and two key antennas so not sure witch parts even belong to the car. I was hoping to just fit everything from a scrapper and have it running.
