Default XC60 - Theatre lighting

Whats does this actually mean?

Does NOT appear to have anything more than a bog standard roof light on my Momentum XC60

Just means it fades in / dims rather than goes straight on / off.

Like about every car since 1995!

Is it not extra lighting in the footwells, dash and doors? My (albeit XC90) has strips of LED in the door cards and in the dash above the glovebox.

In my XC60 Inscription Pro I have white LED in the doorwells, door handles, footwells and armrest. In addition are three LED that can be changed to a variety of colours that shine down from the rear view mirror and the over the two rear passenger seats.

I wouldn't call it that a theatre and it certainly isn't something I'd miss. In comparison to previous Audi's I've owned the interior lighting (effects) are pretty rubbish in the two Volvo I have owned

Theatre lighting are the two RGB Led's that shine down from the roof, one in the overhead map light cluster in the front, and one in the rear. They only come on like the rest of the ambient lighting when it the exterior light level drops to a certain level.

I think there are 5 or six colours to choose from, or you can have them change depending on the ambient temperature.

You can certainly tell the difference in the colours when its dark, but they are not meant to be bright, just a subtle colour wash on the centre console.

The other extreme is the new Audi and MB cars which just look ridiculous with way too much ambient light, a bit like driving a mobile strip club!!

The colour changing lights are referred to as 'mood lighting' in the manual, different altogether to ambient lighting.

Controlled via the sensus settings screen, I have mine set to purple which is picked up very nicely by the polished aluminium fittings in the cabin at night!

No options to change colours on Momentum trim

Haven't looked elsewhere in the back

To get the most of the colored lights, I prefer to set the ambient lightning to low (turns off the door handle and door pocket lights) and reduced in density, and then crank the mood lights to high. Kids prefer the purple. I prefer the more subtle red/orange, which is more discrete and actually resembles the old ambient lightning in the BMW's alot.

Basic theatre lighting is the lights in the foot wells and the wee roof lights on the old XC60 and my present V90.
