Default Auto Hold Service Required & SRS Airbag Service Urgent

‘Auto Hold service required’ and ‘SRS airbag Service urgent’ error messages came up on the driver’s display panel when I started the car today after noon. These messages are also stored in the ‘messages’ section on the centre display panel as shown in the attached pictures. This is the first time these messages appeared and the auto Hold function isn’t functioning upon pressing the auto hold button on the tunnel console.

Can anyone please shed some light on the possible causes why this might be happening and the possible resolution. I can and will contact the dealership tomorrow morning. Thanks in advance.

Can be hundreds of different reasons. Use a scanner. And a dealer.

Auto hold needs to be sure you have your seat belt on before it works. The airbags check for seatbelt too. My money would be on the seatbelt sensor.

Hi, do you have any updates on this? I got the same error on my '19 XC90 last Saturday, took it to service on Monday, they updated the software and acknowledged Volvo is aware of the problem and working on a solution. Unfortunately the message came back again yesterday. Has your problem been solved? If so, could you please share what the service did? I've read some people suggest not using the Auto hold feature meantime but would like to hear alternatives.

Thanks.

Default Auto Hold Service Required & SRS Airbag Service Urgent

I have the same problem with my V90 2019 (70k)

The dealer (Belgium) told me Volvo Sweden is working on that issue.
A solution is to drive without auto hold, otherwise the warning will code back.
Update is foreseen end this year for 2019 V90
(UPdate for 2017 2018 V90 is already rolled out)

Hi, apologies for not being able to respond to your query any sooner.

To answer your query, yes my dealer (UK) was able to resolve the issue for me back in August 2019. They said that they were able to resolve the issue by reinstalling the software update that they originally carried out during the first annual service of the car in July 2019. Since they have done the reinstallation of the software, I haven’t had any similar or other issues relating to the SRS airbag or auto hold feature and I have been using the auto hold feature on a daily basis without any issues. Hope this info helps.

Hey, thanks for the update. I took mine to a different service this time, pretty much they repeated what the first service said. Once the auto-hold message comes up, it somehow triggers the SRS airbag message. The two are related not separate issues. They double checked if the latest software was installed by the other guys and that was the case. They turned off the error messages, also advised keeping the auto-hold and auto-parking brake ON (as per a Volvo technical bulletin regarding this issue; they noted TJ34647) as opposed to my intuition keeping them deactivated.

It's been close to 10 days and the messages haven't come back yet. Keeping my fingers crossed but if they do they can't do anything other than turning them off until Volvo releases a definite software solution. Hope this helps with the others suffering from the same issue.

The same is true for me. ‘Auto Hold service required’ and ‘SRS airbag Service urgent’ error messages came up on the driver’s display panel when I started the car yesterday in the morning. Called the Volvo Assistance and got towed away to the next Volvo dealership. Today, I received a phone call. The issue with Auto Hold is well known with Volvo and they allegedly are working on a solution for it. The SRS airbag issue is connected with the Auto Hold issue and does not indicate an issue with the SRS airbag itself, although the SRS airbag system is shut down, if that error message comes up. They recommended not to use the Auto Hold, until Volvo comes up with a Software update for the problem.

My car went to the dealer last week for the whole day.

I received the latest SW version. They are not sure the problem will be solved, but after 1000km, with auto-hold on, I didn't get the message again...

To be continued ...
