The first link I posted has pictures of the latch part.

I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the locking bar part taken using a spare glovebox not attached to a car. The wedge shaped part of the latch (not shown, see link) engages behind the foremost, wedge-shaped bit just below the light switch in these pictures. There is a plastic bit behind this (broken on this example) which I think is intended to make access to force the lock more difficult and possibly also to stop things in the glovebox getting into the latch. The locking bar part (shown in the pictures attached) is fixed to a flexible strip of metal which runs along the top of the glovebox so it is possible to prise this up a little bit whilst simultaneously forcing the door part down and forward a bit. You might then also be able to get something in between the two business parts if the lock either to press the latch down or force the actual locking bar up a bit more.

Mine gave all of a sudden firing bits of the latch around the passenger compartment. This made me think at first I’d broken it but in fact it was just as I explained previously.

Flat dinner knives or similar are the best tool as they won’t damage the edge of the door.

Oh, and the reason I’ve got a spare glovebox? At the time it was much cheaper to buy and have delivered a complete glovebox rather than just the latch part.

First check that your glovebox has all its original fixings in place and that the latch part of the lock is working as it should.

Assuming this is the case, you should be able to adjust the striker plate by gently bending down the long metal strip to which it is attached. See the pictures in my previous post. You may need to insert a suitable shim above the metal strip in order to stop it springing back up.

Just remember that doing this will make it harder to get into your glovebox if/when you get the same problem as the OP.

hi all thanks for your valued help .forrest this is exactly whats happened to my lock . i managed to drill a 32 mm hole in back of glove box and see the latch but this was to no advantage . so i noticed there is a rubber surround on lock latch this came of easy then i used a pair of grips and turned the latch knob clockwise with a lot of force this released the small latch and door fell open .
the lock barrel come out easy after you turn the large O ring type retainer washer
then on inspection the tiny metal latch inside the barrel had broken as forrest describes .
so has any one got a barrel lock going ?
regards jim

If you have a look in the Sales section Jim, Mark (griston64) and Luke (360beast) are both breaking 945s and i think the gloveboxes are still available on both.
