Default MAP Sensor

Volvo part 31355462.

I decided to pay an Indy to run a full diagnostic and smoke test on my "engine system service required" issue and they diagnosed the intercooler map sensor and said it was the above part...which is quite expensive compared to an alternative.

Can anyone help....the Bosch equivalent seems to be 0261230294 but 0261230293 seems to also come up.

[EDIT....now it seems it is 0261230105!] #confused!

Are they interchangeable and does anyone know which I should order?

Thanks

This appears VERY confusing. I went on "Partsbos.com" - no reason save it came up on Google when I searched for 0261230293 + bosch.
they list 0261230293 + 0261230105 (but re name as 0261230295), but not *0294

http://partsbos.com/map-sensors/103-...261230221.html

http://partsbos.com/map-sensors/162-...-31355463.html

Of the 2 bosch part number you quote *0293 was the only one that tied back to the volvo 31355462 part number. Although 0105/0295 were suitable for many volvo 5 pots, the XC205bhp was not one listed, nor did the item tie back to the *5462 volvo part number.
I tried other googled sites to try and trace a *0294 part and again found volvo 5 pots listed but no tie back to the volvo *5462 part number.

Ive seen a bosch electronics site somewhere where many bosch car components are listed. I used it to get a MAF sensor, but for some reason its hiding from my google

Not the help you hoped I know, but another slant on things.

Cheers
Bob

Thanks.

I was eventually supplied a part - Bosch 0 261 230 296 ! I did ask (in writing) and the supplier said he had cross-referenced the part and it was suitable.

All I can say is it fits, I cleared the error code and took it for a test drive and so far there's no "engine system service required" warning - I'll have to get a few miles on it to be sure though.

If anyone is interested...it's a pig of a job to get to the sensor which is then simply 1 screw.

Bumper off...not too hard, then there's accessing it. Remove washer bottle to create a bit of space (probably not strictly necessary)...then you still cant get to it so I ended up supporting the cross-member under the radiator and removing the brace/bracket that supports it; after that there's a plastic shroud in the way which can be pushed back a little; finally there's very little room to get a torx and ratchet on it (for the screw) so I resorted to using a torx socket with a 1/4 inch spanner on the hex shaft.

I could no doubt do it much quicker next time (leave washer bottle etc) and spend less time working out just how to get to the damned thing.

I just hope that sensor is right as it's not something I want to do again without good cause. Having said that, it was worth a punt on the Bosch (£36) versus £100 for the Volvo part...and as we all know, Volvo don't actually make the sensor anyhow!

A less reliable part located out of easy reach is yet another example of Volvo progress unfortunately.

The early versions of the D5244T has the MAP sensor next to oil filler cap and can be changed in less than a minute only it's never required as failure is pretty much unheard of.

The only MAP and TMAP faults you hear of on here are Euro 4 onwards.

Took me 3 hours...reckon I could do it in half that next time, but it's still unnecessarily difficult but that's modern cars I suppose.

Most of the time was head-scratching working out how to get to it and get a torx on it before deciding to remove the bracket/support.

I suppose but a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor not being on the intake manifold does seem a bit backwards.
They moved it to the intercooler part way through the run of D5244T and those versions are reliable and working fine at 15+ years so the short life of later D5 MAPs is still strange.

The boost pressure sensor is a MAP by a different name.
There aren't really boost sensors on cars, just MAPs and boost is calculated from there.

MAP minus atmospheric pressure = boost pressure.

Bugger! The warning is back and the whole thing is becoming a bit of a saga...The actual part on my vehicle is 31303974, which has been replaced by 31355462.

The Bosch part is 0 261 230 294 which seems particularly hard to find but that part itself seems to be completely interchangeable with 0 261 230 293.

Basically, no one seems to stock '294 but 293' is readily available...but then why does the OE part have '294 on it???

The supplier that sent me '296 has now decided that it's not interchangeable, but that is based on his ability to only check against against 31355462...but it shouldn't make any difference!

I might just pay through the nose for the Volvo part as this seems unnecessarily difficult and very annoying when I know the Bosch part but can't find it.
