As for V power diesel, I have never tanked up anything else throughout my ownership of the car... last week I went in for a fuel filter change after 67000 km "41000 miles", well exceeding the service interval.
The service man came out and said that although they changed it, it was still very clean and needn't be changed yet, and there were absolutely no metallic particles in the fuel filter housing, which was, as he put it, quite uncommon for these cars.

As for engine additives, It's more than enough to use a high grade engine oil to mop it up from the inside, after using Mobil 1 fuel economy 0W30 A1/A5 B1/B5 for over 30,000 miles I now, after 9000 miles of hard driving, drain a dark brownish coloured oil, the first three oil changes after converting to this oil, the oil after 7000 miles would come out pitch black and thicker than usual. Now, as I said, runny and dark brown, not black, not thickened... which means that the engine has been cleaned and naturally flushed.

I never fill the tank to full, only ever half full but I am going to half fill tonight and put in 30ltrs for the next 4 fill ups. Record the mileage etc... (I have a great app for that!) and report my findings.

Also, going to have a go at cleaning the throttle body and EGR this week, which will more than likely improve MPG anyway. Just thinking.......might leave it until the weekend to see if the V-power is making a difference first.

Watch this space.

Okay on my second half tank using V-Power and it seems as though I have actually increased my MPG (according to the APP I am using on my phone). I have noticed that starting the car in the morning is a bit smother than before and when I put my foot down it seems to be a gradual incline of power. (I don't know if I've just convinced myself of it?)

Going to continue with it and see how I get on. I'll do a full report in 6 months time, with month by month updates.

Does anyone see a problem with using both BP Ultimate and V-Power (alternate fill-ups of course), I'm guessing they are doing much of the same thing to the engine?

Only reason I ask is the price of them both at the garages closest to me does vary, of course, and so picking the cheapest out of the two is going to save a few pennies.

not it is not a problem the only difference between the 2 it is the percentage of sulphur (only really if you have a DPF) as the shell V power it is a lot cleaner fuel and minimise the amount of ash collection.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you get the information from?

Thanks!

personal and family knowledge.

firstly you will read many times the word GTL, GTL is gas converted to liquid and added to the diesel as synthetic component.

as refined product the vpower diesel is the most advanced diesel for cars with DPF in Europe.

Shell it is one of very few oil company that have refinery that can produce GTL if you think about the GTL in your diesel gets produced in malaisia, the differnces between the ultimate and V power is the presence of GTL and lower sulphur content in the latter ,and therefore less smoke, smell and less soot produced with the V Power

if you dont have the DPF possibly Ultimate it is better fuel as it gives more punch at lower RPM ( vpower due to the composition loses little bit of fluency in releasing the power at low RPM but at the same time at higher RPM it is a better fuel).

i hope it makes sense

It does indeed, thanks for the info!

I'm originally from Malaysia! I knew we were good for something ;-)

I don't actually have a DPF so I might opt for the BP Ultimate instead.

If you ever find a white paper on the fuels I'd be really interested! (geek)
