Yes, main beam flickers on as if flashing someone and he blue light comes on. Sometimes main beam won't go off and the blue light stays on but if I indicate left/right briefly it'll go off.
Model specific as in some have cruise? Mine doesn't. |

Does theheadlamp flasher/main beam part of the switch feel "woolly" as you operate it at all? Woolly as in not very precise, soft around the edges and generally a bit floppy? Comparing it to the wiper stalk is usually a good comparison. If it does feel woolly, that's another good pointer towards the switch, however testing is the only real way and in this case, testing would be by substituting another switch. Try to find the Volvo part number on the switch to help you order a new one, the 760 & 960 with cruise shared the same indicator/headlamp flasher stalk, non-cruise versions shared another stalk, the 740 had a couple of different stalks, some are compatible with the 940 and the the 940 itself had a couple of different stalks.

Replacement stalk unit supplied by 360Beast.
So far so good although the bulb behind the temp gauge stopped working. Was going to post "Paradise but NO dashboard light" but then unexplicably it came on again after a few miles. Thanks again to 360Beast for helping out. |

Joking aside i know why mine is playing up, just need to psyche myself up to remove the instrument cluster and change the bulb. Good news on the headlamp stalk though, not known a Volvo do that but always a first time!

You can reach that bulb without removing cluster. Just take off panel under dash and you can reach it from underneath if you lie in the foot-well. Although as I said I changed mine and it still does it

Mine is playing up as it's the last of what seems to be a bad batch of LED bulbs from Chinabay. Bought them a few years ago and first fitted them in my Cherokee back in 2015 (10 in the batch, only 2 in the Jeep cluster so you can see how many failed in short order!) and was one short from the others i'd bought since (that have lasted) for the 760 cluster. Used that last one just to see really and sure enough, it's given up the ghost but lasted a lot longer than the others out of the batch!

I know what you mean though and have changed a few on my old 740s doing exactly that, however on this one there is a plastic plate in the dash between the cluster and everything below it and not enough room to get a grimy paw up and behind without contortionism and maybe even broken bones! Presumably it's extra strengthening to take account of the fusebox being mounted on the end of the dash, only accessible with the drivers door wide open.
