Ok, the original quoted 45bhp and 60lbft was against a different power graph done on my car which recorded 615bhp & 550lbft but these are the comparison charts prepared for Audi.
Orange is OEM air filter, Red is with K&N= 25bhp and 40lbft. Powdered Unicorn Horn it is then!!! |

I note the claimed gain has fallen from 45 to 25 bhp, so getting within the likely dyno error.

You will not get 25bhp out of an air filter |

The guys who did the power run (who do this day in, day out) said the same thing before the run but were quite shocked at the result. That's why they were accusing Audi of doing something else to the car other than just putting the K&N filter back in the airbox. But getting back on topic, I take that no-one on here has fitted one as yet? Looks like I will be the 'Test Puppet' after all!! |

Is this a K&N panel in the original air box? A lot of Dyno stuff with intakes is done with the bonnet open so it doesnt overheat, so avoids ingesting hot air like in the real world. OEM exhaust manifolds are usually rubbish though as its major money to engineer a proper one in a tight engine bay.

Car was always run on 99 octane so no change there and bonnet was open with a 'big ass fan' blowing lots of air into the grills to replicate forward motion during all runs completed. Quite baffling. |

I wonder if that is so.
During its lean phase, the engine runs as lean as possible, the limit measured by the knock sensor. Since higher octane fuel resists knocking better, advance will be retarted more before knocking occurs.

So, just resurrecting this thread as I now have both my new Volvo and the performance air filter to try out in it (will be installing on Friday when I get home).
I am still wondering if there is anyone on the forum with a T5, T6 or T8 that has installed and if so, have you gained anything? I'm mostly interested in knowing if there is any more supercharger whine coming out of the engine bay. I look forward to the standard comments asking 'why are you changing something the OEM had spent decades perfecting'.
