Default Roof rail types: which models and years?

Hi all,

On 1998 and 1999 V70s I have two styles of roof rail.

Slim and fat.

Are they both original to V70 (which years) or is one of them from a 850?

Do the slim and fat styles both fit all 1998-1999 V70s? ie I can swap them between cars?

Thanks
Steve

Both original to V70. 99-00 models got the fat ones, 97-98 got the slim ones. Yes, they all fit the same between any year 850/V70.

Default Roof Rails

My July 1998 V70 has the fat ones.

Don't know if they were retro-fitted or original as they were on there when I bought it eight years ago. Would the VIN show what was original?

Not that it matters as I have no intention of removing them, but it is good to know that there are two versions that are interchangeable.

(Somewhere in the back of the garage I have a pair rescued from a 740 about ten years ago and never fitted. Must do something with them at some time!).

You can read about the roof bars in the V70 Wikipedia.

That was the first thing I did, which didn't produce any meaningful result!!! Hence my request.

How do I normally find things? Start with internet searches and then when unsuccessful ask people who claim to be knowledgeable. After all, isn't that what these sites are for?

I mean, "Volvo V70 Wikipedia" into any search engine brings up the V70 wikipedia page as the first result. Upon clicking that you simply scroll down to the First Generation/P80 section and in paragraph 6 of the article (paragrapy 2 of the P80 section) you'll find the info on the 99-00 facelift changes, including the bars.

This took about 3secs to find. Not sure how it slipped by you, but hey ho - hopefully you'll have better luck now you know better where to look!
