@Amazondean, I believe you are spot on.

No way am I removing a gearbox mount in order to refill the gearbox!

I removed the air box, located the sensor and removed it and gained the access I need to refil the box in less than five minutes.

I’ll try and post some pictures.

The mount on the convertible was changed in 2002 to the same type as the AWD, hence the mount on the op's car is obstructing the filler plug and the photo refers to the earlier set up as per S/V70.

I'd be very interested to know about this sensor option for refilling for reference, I'm just weary of doing it for an entire flush and refill though, so maybe I should still just leave mine alone.,.

Had no idea - I've not been involved in much in the way of C70s. Rather interesting though, what is the apparent benefit?

I assume the AWD mount is stronger than the previous type. With the facelift models introduced in 2002 - Chrystal lights etc - the engines were also revamped giving a small increase in power. The 2.4 was increased to 200bhp and the T5 to 245bhp.

It is one of the easiest jobs. Don't bother with the proper filling hole. Just take the sensor plug out first so that you are comfortable with it and to make sure you have a funnel that will fit. Then just drain it from the bottom and refill in the sensor hole the correct amount. Either 2 litres or 2.1 litres. Not sure which. It's as easy as that.
