Default Dipstick - messy problem (480)

This has been annoying me since the Sparkford Rally.

Where my dipstick holder goes in to the engine block it is extremely loose. Pushing it down further has no effect. (it just goes down further!) The end result is oil seeps out and as everyone knows a little oil makes a big mess!

From what I can see at a quick glance it appears there should be a sealing ring.

Volvo helpfully do not show this on any of their documentation, and I am at a loss as to whether it is a 'part' on its own or 'part' of the dipsitck.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks

Chris

I have had a similar problem on a different car and the only way I found to solve it was to use some Milliput epoxy putty which is oil and heat resistant. It stayed put till I sold the car you can get quite a finish on it and after a while it looks as thought it is supposed to be there!! Not the perfect solution I know but one that works none the less.
You can also use chemical Metal/JB weld as far as I know, but would advise that you check the pack and make sure it is both oil and heat resistant.
