That's the one that indicates a fault on the A/C system usually just low on gas from lack of use. It could possibly be related as Jim says to the temperature sensor in the interior lamp but unless that sensor is damaged, no other connection for the roof - the sensor will still function even with the headlining down so as Luke eloquently put it, the previous seller was talking out of their butt!

Ah, that's interesting, thanks. I probably should have found that out in spring and then I could have enjoyed the summer in a/c comfort! As it was, the electric windows are almost comically fast compared to my newer cars, and I've been happy enough driving around with all of them down and the sunroof open (when it worked :-( )

Forgot to say, the sunroof is probably the switch.

My car has ECC and when I had the interior light pod out (brackets were broken and I struggled to find a new one) the AC button flashed all the time. So it might be that it’s disconnected in some way.

Could be, it shows as a "Serious Fault" on the diagnostics :

https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Hea...iagnosticCodes

That means it will continuosly flash the warning on the switch. Assuming it's not disconnected in which case that will be the fault. I may have misunderstood about the headlining being down, assuming the lamp is still up and all connected including the sensor, it won't make any difference if the headlining is out.
