Default 760 alloys and spacer request

Hi, I am after a nice set of alloys for a 1987 760 estate. The factory wheels are 15 inch but I suppose I could go to 16. I know that if alloys from newer FWD's are used then spacers are needed. If I can't get wheels from RWD's does anyone know where such spacers are available from and what offset is needed for my car? KJ

Vic's right - you're pretty much stuck with the original wheels from Volvo - 240/740/760/940.

Stay away from late 960 wheels - these are same fitment as later FWD cars like V70 etc.

Also, beware of the "Virgo" 5 spoke 240 alloys - these foul some of the brake setups on 740/760/940's.

As for the spacers to fit FWD wheels - £££ - I think a set is about £200+. Too thick to just use spacers over standard wheel studs.

Hi, many thanks for the useful posts from ian2000t and sunnyvic. I will ceratinly contact John Smith to enquire of what he might have available. As for spacers, are you saying it's not possible at all to use spacers to fit later model FWD wheels? If it is possible even though expensive, who sell these? When you say a set, is this for 2 or 4 wheels?

I seem to remember a similar post where a suggestion was to check german ebay, will try and check out. KJ

Hi, I was right the suggestion came from this post by 940 Turbo:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=119742

Yous search on german ebay for 'Volvo (model) spurverbreitung'. There is a lot available, some at cheap prices.

However, even if I can get spacers at a reasonable cost, I still don't know which spacers for my car I would need for different wheels, e.g. 960, v90, 850, V70 etc. Is there any guide on this? Grateful for any help. KJ

960/V90/850 alloys all have 43mm offset, whereas most of the 240/740/940 have 20mm, some were 25mm. This is only a guess, but I believe most go for 20mm spacers front, and 25mm on the back.

Judging from your question re my german edition accessories brochures, according to that very brochure, the 1987 760 can take the following wheels:

7x16" - 205/55-16
7x15" - 195/60-15 or 205/60-15
6x15" - 195/60-15

14" wheels will only fit cars fitted with 14" brakes (doh!).

If needed, I can take a pic of the wheels and post here. Pls PM.

Have a set of nice 760 alloys with nearly new tyres on them, will get pics if you are interested. They are the 20 spoke ones off a wentworth complete with center caps
