I bet you are right about corrosion, after all if it was resistor failure, depending on how it is wired, one might presume just one of the settings to fail don't you think? As I was told by mechanic you can re-wire so you have a 0 and 3 setting ability only (ie bypass the pack) - suspect it depends on how much of a 'sealed unit' the pack is as to how easy it is to repair. As I recall Haynes wiring diagrams give the resistor ratings but I don't have that to hand Dan
