Default air intake

well alll things going well so far but i have noticed a pipe full of holes going from the air filter to the back ot the engine about 2 inches in diameter.
one end has fell of completly at the engine end and i don't know what it is for. the other end is connected to the bottom of the air filter housing the engine is a b18u 1994.
the engine still insists on running hot even though the cooling system is almost completly new and appears to be working fine
dont know if this is of any relevance but any help would be appreciated.
cheers steve.
