At this rate it should reach its value (about £999) by Xmas 2022:

:-)

PS. This motor car will become an historic vehicle on 1 April 2023 - its value will increase then, perhaps to £1,500 - and it will not need a MoT test (now that is a scary thought, it was last tested in 2009!).

This one really is persistent - a mere £2,500 now, will it sell before it becomes an historic vehicle in only 15 months time?

The V8 thing didn't sell at the end of yet another eBay listing - I don't know whether it is still advertised elsewhere.

Just a thought. With an engine change to a different make and type, its a significant change from standard, or in DVLA parlance a "substantial alteration".

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...ptable-changes

No one will convince the DVLA that fitting a slurpy old Rover V8 will improve efficiency, safety, or environmental performance! That being the case, it'll never qualify for historic vehicle status.

We have discussed this issue previously, somewhere in the posts above I think. The motor car is already properly registered as a V8 (some years ago if I recall), so I doubt that any of the civil servants working from their kitchen tables in Swansea will notice anything out of the ordinary. I rather suspect it will qualify as an historic vehicle without any problems (but I suppose there is a small risk).

Before I retired I built race engines for my crust, have been involved in swapping motors between cars of all types.

I know many people to whom this has happened. Once the DVLA are aware of such an alteration that's it, they then in all likelihood won't fall for it. They're not daft, they've caught out plenty of people for whom I've done work.

The only method to avoid it with a reasonable chance if success is simply not to tell them, and that carries it's own risks. If, as it seems, it has been registered with the new engine then that door has already slammed shut.

Trust me, the 240 was for sale new as late as the 1990s and the DVLA know all the engine specs. It absolutely won't achieve classic status without a Volvo engine being reinstated.
