Top engine mount
mine is split, so I need to replace it.
Can anyone confirm whether this is any good? https://www.partsmonster.co.uk/volvo...ing-9686-p.asp I could just get the bush on its own for about £16 but I'd then need to pay someone to press it in, so I think it will be cheaper to buy the unit. Mine has the old style bush, and the one at the link is the updated one. I think they should be the same?

I'm confused...you can't fit this bush to earlier models as the mounting is different. The link you posted is for 1999 onwards
You say you need to ger the bush pressed in which implies it's the earlier type. Pressing the old bush out and new in is fairly easy with large sockets and a bong threaded bar.

I don't have the tools to press a new bush in, and for an extra £16 I can buy the new mounting with the new bush already fitted.

Hi Alpine,
I am also a bit puzzled. Can you post or a link to the bush that you don't want to press in? Steve

or I could buy the mounting with the bush as one, and its just a case of bolting the new one on: https://www.partsmonster.co.uk/volvo...ing-9686-p.asp am I understanding it right?

You can't fit the round bush in the mount that takes the cross shaped bush, or vice versa,
The cross shape bush is designed for the later square style of Volvo housing, which replaces the earlier round version. If the mount you listed https://www.partsmonster.co.uk/volvo...ing-9686-p.asp is the same as yours much easier to change the whole thing

I replaced the round one for the square one. The round type has a replaceable bush but the square type isn't serviceable and has to be changed as a complete unit. With a service life probably in excess of 100k, this is no big deal. The change in design is likely down to experience with service life and efficiency. Volvo wouldn't have changed it otherwise. Check the similar one on the underside of the engine too, that is probably in worse condition than the top one. That is cheap and easy to change. Next is the timing side engine mount............

I replaced the round bush on mine with the bracket still in the car, not too tricky with a big bit of threaded rod and some bits of wood for spacers, but if you can change the whole bracket it would save faffing about. Mr Haynes is a classic on this, the photos in the manual show the square type but the line drawing is of the round type
