Default Volvo 940 estate wiring for radio.

The radio was disconnected in my Volvo 940 when my local garage had to remove the dashboard to try and find a water leak. (we thought it might be the heater matrix.) When putting things back together, I can't find the connectors on the wiring loom. Can anyone help, please with a photo or a description of where to look? I have had the panels out but can't see anything. I suspect the mechanic mah have tucked them away when trying to re-fit the dashboard. Unfortunately, I can't ask him as he no longer workd at that garage.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok

I just removed the radio from a 1997 940 I have to take the following pictures for you.

Below is the standard Volvo stereo radio plugs and the Ariel cable

They are all wrapped into one radio connector which will emanate from the main loom from behind the radio cubby hole. The radio cubby hole has a hole in the right corner so the loom will probably be hidden behind that.

Should be quite simple to find.

Thanks for this, it will be a great help.

I can't see anything like it at the moment, but at least I know now what to look for and where.

Can I ask if this connector is just for the power or does it combine power and speakers? The lead I have that plugs into the radio has a double connector that has cables splitting it into two, if that makes sense.

By the way, I managed to get the glove box off in the end and have eliminated the possibility that it was tucked behind that.

again, many thanks.

Of the 2 black plugs that come from the volvo wiring loom.

1 is the speaker wiring, the other is the power wiring. If you have an aftermarket head unit fitted, it will have a volvo to iso conversion lead.

Ie it has one iso plug in back of radio and splits into 2

The volvo loom should be there, it's not got much slack in it.

Default Volvo 940 Radio Wiring

Hi Chesh.

You should have received something from me in your private mail. Your help has enabled me to find the wiring, which the chap at my garage had firmly wedged behind and below the relay board. The radio works great now - I only have to mount it properly.

I also sorted out the light above the rear seat ashtray, thanks to your help.

I am left, it seems, with a spare light cable behind the front console and which I have no idea where it goes. Don't have many bolts and screws left, though, which is unusual for me when putting things back.

Best regards and many thanks.

Default Volvo 940 Radio Wiring (continued)

After locating my radio wiring with help from Chesh and getting the radio to work, I am now putting things back together again.
I find, however, I have connectors etc that seem surplus.
Next to the glove-box light cable (and coming from the same source) is a spare black square connector with two wires – red and black.
Behind the centre console there are:
2 spare lighting connectors with thin blue and white cables (one has no bulb).
3 larger connectors about 1” square also apparently spare:
• 1 white connector with 3 wires – 1 green and orange and 2 green and grey
• 1 black connector with 6 wires
o 2 thick ones, 1 yellow and 1 yellow and blue
o 4 thinner wires – 2 black and 2 green and blue
• 1 more black connector with 4 wires – 1 red, 1 black, 1 blue and 1 blue and yellow.
Any ideas?
