Default Specification question on the V50.

Hi,
New member - I was recommended to come here from car4play.com where I'm a Mod.

My wife is looking at a Volvo V50 D4 - I know enough (now) to know that this is a 2.0 litre 177bhp version of that lovely sounding motor.

Looking at Volvo's site the engine is no longer an option on this car - anyone know why ? Any other general info on the V50 would be appreciated.

Hi I have a V50 D4 geartronic and am very pleased with it. I suspect that Volvo have dropped it as it was too similar to the D3 and also possibly because the V50 will be dropped itself in the not to distant future (next year?).

I had an S40 with the 2.0D engine before and although that was very nice, the D4 is better. I get better fuel consumption in a 177BHP automatic than I did in the old 2.0D manual and suspect if its a manual D4 you are looking at it will be even better.

The service interval is greater 18,000 as opposed to 12,500 for the 2.0D and so far even the dealer service costs are signicicantly lower. If I were buying again I think I would be happy with either the D3 or D4.

It's being phased out...

so don't bother, or if you're buying new get a mega bargain.

Have you tried the new S60/V60 ?

I would look for a used D4 , or go for the D3 a super engine but not quite the same top end power but equals the D4 at low end .
