Economy tuning

Hello,

We operate a small fleet of Volvos (2x '07 V70 2.4, 3x '55 2.4) which I was hoping to fit with, preferably, a tuning module or, less preferably, a remap, with a focus on economy. Power increase is irrelevent and not required at all, most mileage is long distance motorway and a fuel saving of 5% or so would mean a big saving over the year.

Can anyone recommend a company who can offer the above? Or comment on the best path to take to achieve the goal? Googling returns mostly those offering power upgrades. While power increases may go hand-in-hand with an improvement in economy, giving fleet drivers the option to use that power may defeat the object of the exercise.

We have a small fleet of Caravelles as well, so if any company recommended can offer something for VWs as well, all the better.

Thought I'd pop you a message. Next week my Ebay shop is going live and I will indeed be selling modules which increase performance (guess this wouldn't be too relevant for you) but more importantly saves on fuel. You can expect around 30% more bhp, 35% more torque and a 15% saving on fuel - doesn't sound like alot but believe me it is!

Do let me know if you are interested, just having my web designer finish off the last few bits and pieces with regards to the Ebay listing then we should be good to go,

I am willing to accept a tuning module can increase power and torque but I have been looking for something that genuinely reduces fuel consumption for a V70 D5 and so far have not seen any evidence that its possible , I am wanting to be convinced but I am very doubtful . I am willing to beleive that most motor makers leave room for power and torque improvement by a remap ,this makes sense to me but it dosnt make sense to me that they would leave anything on the table with respect to fuel consumption , this would just be bad for business .

i have an 2007 man xc70d5 and am considering a chip.i used to have one on my discovery 3,it really did make a difference to all round performance,acceleration and torque was terrific(considering a d3 weighs nearly 2.3/4 tonnes and has the aerodynamics of a block)it was a 6sp auto with sport/manual overide)if you can actually calm down and not blast the thing everywhere you can by normal steady driving get an improvement on mpg,i got 3-4 more on long journeys fully loaded,so i was up in the mid 30s from 30-31 before the chip.as i say it all depends on how you use the new performance.

Stick a block of wood under the throttle pedal, should help improve economy

On a serioous note I have heard that a decent remap will improve MPG from the like of UPsolute etc

Some "tuning" modules, primarily the ones that connect between the fuel pressure sensor and the loom, do nothing more than trick the CPU into thinking the fuel pump is running below pressure.

The CPU then compensates for this "low pressure" by opening the injectors for a longer period, therefore dumping more fuel into the engine. Dump more fuel into a deisel and it will give you more power, along with emmissions and smoke!

The "economy" gains, don't actually exist, but they do appear on your trip computer.

If you drive the car/van at the same speed, it uses the same fuel. The computer calculates fuel useage based partially on fuel pressure, which if the computer thinks is lower than it really is, it returns a high mpg than is really happening.

A Re-Map will cost a heap more but will actually improve economy across the operating range. This is really the only way to go if you want economy.
