Default Gearbox clunk from 2-1 when slowing down?

Hi folks.

Car is a V70 2002 D5 Auto with 126k miles.

Symptom is as follows:-

When coming to a stop/slowing for a junction the gearbox seems to really give you a jolt when changing from 2nd into 1st. It only does it when fully warmed up, fine when cold. Also if I'm slowing to a stop and change from D to 4 in anticipation of a junction/roundabout etc it doesn't clunk at all?

I've recently flushed the gearbox with 10 litres of the correct fluid. Top engine mount was replaced 18months ago and the lower torque arm was replaced yesterday (the smaller bush on this was totally shot). I thought that might help but nothing. Had my car on Mikes (on here) computer the other day and my vac engine mounts are all fine apparently.

Otherwise the car runs fine, changes up are not exactly imperceptible but not bad by any means in terms of smoothness.

So, I think I can rule out a "loose" mount as the culprit (unless I've missed one) and the fluid is new. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

This is odd as mine has started doing this, I thought it was coming from the o/s/f wheel, but taking it off and prying and bending stuff to no avail. Suspect gearbox mounting but not got time to check at the moment, so if you get any further I will be really interested.

Looks like it's just us then!

Just rang volvo leeds and they want £83 + vat just to hook it up to the computer. I was thinking that having the gearbox software updated might help smooth things out but not happy paying volvo £100 just to be told I need a new gearbox.

I'm getting a bit ****ed off with this car now. Might get rid after the upcoming mot and go back to a manual petrol something or other.

This is not a computer thing, this is definately bush thats failed, it just needs working out which one and replacing it. If I get time I'll take the car into Chapmans at York, (won't use Harratts....cowboys) and I'll report back.

Don't wish to put a downer on this situation but ours had the exact same symptoms (only it turned out to be between 3rd and 2nd) and needed the gearbox reconditioned. It was in a 2002 S60 D5 auto, with the same AW 'box.

I noticed that the top and bottom mounts were shot, no doubt caused by the constant thumping of the gearbox when decelerating for each junction in town traffic.

The car had a warranty and we claimed on that, so the cost to us wasn't horrific.

Well I dread to think what a new or recon gbox would cost, anyone have any recent experience with this?

Typically, when out today it didn't do it at all. It's weird, sometimes it's really noticeable, sometimes not. I'm not really prepared to spend any more money on the car now so will just live with it. It doesn't seem to have got any worse over the last few thousand miles so hopefully it will carry on regardless.

Can't see it being a duff gearbox, definately a mounting just need pointing in the right direction from someone on here.
Had a gearbox replaced on my last V70 after Harratts buggered it and denied it, but picked one up for £500 and another £500 to fit it, so not so bad, but will have to make time to get it sorted.

Driving around today noticed the metallic click when the gearbox was going down through the gears (geartronic) not just 2-1, but down through from 4th, any clues anyone, would appreciate some pointers on this, I just hope this isn't an expensive one, as we move house next week and the house we are moving into hasn't been touched in thirty plus years, so any available pennies need to go on the house NOT the bloody car!
