Yes, it's definitely the problem, I bypassed it temporarily and everything worked. Just going to try to link it with a 150 amp fuse for now. Thanks everyone.

any good electician should be able to fit some connectors to fit a circuit breaker or fuse holder . dont bodge it as it could cause a fire. it would be worth getting codes read to try and find if there was a problem in the system eg siezed starter motor or some other component that draws lots of current iv never seen one of these fused links fail on any car . but there is always a first time . keep us posted with what you find.

Have you made any enquiries with a Volvo dealer to ascertain whether this item is replaceable?

OK. Here's the update:
I have one fully functioning V70!
A fuse holder (slightly modified) and 150A fuse from ebay (£4.49)has done the trick.
The connection had been bodged by a previous owner, it doesn't seem to have just blown the fuse.
Incidentally, if anyone's key fob is stuck in the dash, just pull it out with pliers - this is a tip I got from youtube and it comes out without any apparent damage.
Thanks to all who offered advice.

Well done on the fix.
There is another thread somewhere on this forum which mentions an intermittent occasional loss of electrics which was traced to a crack in that “fuse” device.
I’m not sure about pulling the key out of the dash with pliers. When the motor in my daughter’s failed there was no way it was coming out, until Volvo Assist persuaded it.
