Question 850R membership figures

Just added my details to the 850R register and I was wondering how many 850Rs we actually have in the club? Considering that only 200 were made (I believe), we seem to have a good %age!

Any up to date figures available from the membership register?

Ehm there were a few more than 200.

I thought about 5500 T-5R's worldwide and about 9000 R's worldwide.

PS How many now survived that's another question.

There is a notice going out in the August edition of the Driver magazine for people to update me with there car details....
Of course this is unlikely to attract notification from non-Voc members so i guess to discover the number of vehicles currently about DVLA may be a option...

As noted in rolling thunder's first post, I started an R register on this forum e a few years back - there's quite a list of members and non-members' 850Rs there as well.

Thats true Iain, the problem with people on the register is do they still own the cars or are the cars still running?....Whilst the register is great it does not cover every R in circulation...
The most accurate way i can think of is to approach the DVLA, who i expect can provide a upto date list by means of Taxed and SORN vehicles...
All the Best

Looks like I completely misunderstood the 'limited edition' 850R production history! Found an article last night on the web which indicates the history something along the lines of -

T5-R limited edition to celebrate BTCC success. The '200' production figure seems to be the Gull Yellow examples.

850R took over from T5-R (400 sold in UK) as a limited edition initially, but in Oct 1995 a press release stated that the 850R was 'becoming a permanent feature of the 850 lineup'. ie it was no longer a limited edition. It cost £32,000 at the time btw, same for saloon, estate whether auto or manual.

What i heared from UK forums is that there were actually less R's sold than T-5R's(a number of 197 came up for the R's)
So even though the T-5R was a limited production run, there are less R's in the UK.

Hi

I've still got my 'R'.......

Had it for over 7 years, put 140000 of the 197000 on it and can't think of another car I would replace it with (that I can afford).

I sure that only 197 of R's were imported into the UK though probably more were actually made.

I've often wondered how many are actually still around seeing as the youngest of them are now 12 years old. Mine is on a P plate registered Feb 97 although manufactured 96.
