Virgo alloy wheels
I really fancy the idea of putting some decent alloys on my 240 and spotted a set of what I think are called "Virgo" wheels on a site called http://www.volvospares-uk.com/. I've also spotted a 240 GLT just down the road here in Coventry with what looks like the same wheels on it.
In the last week since collecting my "new" 240 I seem to be noticing other 240's with alarming regularity and I'm sure the occupants of a red 240 were eyeing up mine as they drove out of a car park earlier today. The guy has quoted me 30 quid a wheel which sounds like a good deal looking at the price of new alloy wheels in Halfords and the like. Has anyone on the forum dealt with volvospares-uk.com ? I'm tempted to go for it come payday as I read in an earlier forum post that decent alloys/tyres can help handling somewhat but would be interested to hear what anyone else has to say. Regards Ben |

Hello there
I've a set of the 5 spoke virgos on my 240 estate, they instantly changed the ride of the car and look, I take it you have a GL or DL? If so the anti roll bars from a GLT estate of the same year will drasticall alter things, you should be able to pick up a pair for about £20 from the local scrappy, once you have them replace the rubber bushes on the front one for poly bushes (about £20-30) and you will be astonished at the change in handling.
I've done this and it is well worth the effort, about an hour and halfs labour. Andi K |

Thanks for the info Andy, I'll pop for the wheels come payday and keep my eyes peeled for the other bits.
The car I've got is a 1991 240 SE which I've now had for about two weeks and am really enjoying getting to know it Regards Ben |

The 15" Virgo wheels are in my opinion the nicest looking wheels for the 240s. Very "correct" for the period. A Swedish newspaper wrote at the time they were introduced though, that "Volvo has now invented the square wheel!" I have two sets for my sedan, one for summer and and one for winter tyres. I have had both sets media blasted and powder coated, and they came out very nice.
One word of advice though: They bend easily. When buying used ones, try to make sure they are reasonably straight. (Comparatively, the not-so-nice 14" Corona wheels are much less of a risk to buy second-hand.) Erling.

they might be up forsale soon, i'm hopefully buying some Hydra from a later 940 so i'll be selling these. they've got Not far off new Avon ZV3's on the front and about 6month old Kumho SPT on the back all in 205/55/15 which is a good match for the 15x7 size |

RavenNexus,
Could very well be interested in your wheels if the price was right. PM me and let me know what you'd be looking for and a likely time frame (no rush, currently skint!!!! ) |
