This is the noise mine was making. As you will see in the video that someone posted on youtube, the noise dies when he blocks one of the pipes for a bottom engine mount. Both were leaking on mine. https://youtu.be/q8CtUfU1Ico

How did you fix your leaking bypass valve?
Volvo wants to replace the entire cooler just because the bloody actuator is shot

Just blind off the vacuum hose right befor the vacuumbox under the egrcooler it just alternates during warmup to give the catalyst a tiny bit of hotter exhaust (at the expense of slower warming coolant)
D5 with auto gearbox dont even have the bypassvalve

Ive blinded of mine too

You dont know how happy I'm to hear this, I'v spoken to a "mechanic" at Volvo here in Sweden and he could't give me a straight answer, it was like it was the first time he heard about the bypass valve. The moneygrabbers just look in Vida and do what it tells em, no more common sense here just the clik clik on the keyboard
I did some research with Pierburg (egr manufacturer) and there they talked about the importance of the bypass valve in for example DPF regeneration as it can increase exhaust temperature and I was worried about that and the possibility of condesation in the EGR if it's already cold outside and you cool the exhaust even more specially at start up, but if the auto D5 doesn´t even have bypass valve then both of those things shouldn't be an issue.

Can you just verify that by plugging the hose the valve will stay in the position so it forces the exhaust through the coolant at all times?

Thanks a bunch!

The vacuum is released by a solenoid to open the bypass , its springloaded to return closed as the vacuum is gone (you can move the bypassvalve by hand with small hands)
Thats only used sporadicly during warmup so no vacuum no bypass and good egr cooling and faster coolant warmup
Its also not used during dpf regeneration originally

Too avoid condensation/frost in the intake by moist egr gasses , egrvalve is closed with outside temps below 4 deg celcius by the ecu . but that dont need interference with the bypassvalve because they are placed in serial

Maybe its better and more handy to blind it off just before the solenoid above the egr

Wow! I'm glad I found this thread!!

Mine makes this popping sound and (I think) I may have a problem with turbo wastegate (presumably vacuum controlled).

Looks like I'm looking for a vacuum leak tomorrow.
