Spark plugs
I can see from the paperwork that came with my car that the spark plugs were last changed 9 years ago. But since then the car has only done 30k miles.
I assume spark plugs need changing based on mileage and not time, so are they ok for a bit longer?

Pop them out and have a look at them? In general I'd expect spark plugs to wear with mileage but cars doing low mileages can do funny things too.

Volvo sparkplugs have a service life of around 36,000mls so your are nearing the end of their life. After 9 years and assuming they have not been removed in the meantime there is a very real possibility they are seized in the head.
For what new plugs cost, get a new set and change them for peace of mind.

low mileage with spark plugs means short journeys and lots of cold starts which can coke up the plugs , If you follow the official service recommendations you should have changed them 3 times by now ...

.....anyone know what the correct plugs are?
And without having a torque wrench, how do I ensure I do not over tighten them?

Quote:
Just tighten with moderate pressure , you will feel the washer crush and the plug will go tight , leave it there ...

Well, I replaced my plugs last night and found it surprisingly easy.
From the service history I have, I assumed the plugs were last changed 9 years ago by a Volvo dealer. I was therefore surprised to find Bosch super plus plugs, and not Volvo branded ones. The plugs I took out looked a little oily, is that normal? I've fitted the correct NGK plugs being BKR6ETUC

Should have fitted genuine volvo, others (including ngk) can cause issues.

I've run my 855R on NGK plugs for the last 10 years with no issues whatsoever.
Salut! Pookie
