However, I'm both amazed and disappointed that a car of this price doesn't have the front sensors enabled as standard, been told this will cost a £1000 to enable which would include the park assist.

It's small things like this that make the difference when buying a car again.

Park Assist can refer to the rear parking sensors.

But you still bought it knowing this? The cost of 'enabling' includes a new front bumper, grill etc with the sensors fitted. Also, Volvo include more important things like Lane Keep Assist, Run off Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise, Pilot Assist and many other more useful things which other manufacturers do not.

I believe that front parking sensors are now standard on model year 2018.

Anyhow, if you really need them, buy a set off eBay and get a local person to fit them. A friend recently had them fitted to a really bright metallic red vehicle. Had them colour coded and everything. Can't visually say they weren't factory fitted.

You will have to rely on the buzzer altering frequency for the distance though, because they will not show up as a graphic on the Sensus screen. For that you get the genuine article, although I doubt whether there would be any difference in the sensors themselves.

So this message keeps popping up with me now, and I had all the software updated last month. It happens in dry weather (it did it last Saturday) and usually on the motorway. It is accompanied by the driving mode being reset to normal (on long distances I change to eco mode) which is irksome.

So looks like something we all have to live with,,,

It could also be a foulty sensor upsetting the system. I think some garages got so used to it being a software issue that they do not even think about a hardware issue.

I've had this pop up a couple of times over the last few days, while on the motorway in dry and sunny conditions with a relatively clean car. Interestingly a couple of days back we started a journey on A roads and I popped the car into dynamic (which I sometimes do to keep the car a little flatter in the corners). Towards the end of the journey after a good spell on the motorway and having had the parking sensor message come up and thought to myself I haven't put the car back in comfort, went to do it and found it was in comfort, but I was convinced I hadn't made the change myself and couldn't understand it. So maybe the parking sensor warning had randomly triggered this.

Quirky cars they are!

Had spent a while before washing the car, hoping not related, but did have some issues with my V70 parking sensors (after a few years mind) occasionally when i washed the car. They were replaced as the connections on the back were corroded and i was asked it i had powerwashed the car and if you ever did make sure you dont point the powerwasher directly at the sensors as water can get in.
This message has started popping up on my XC90 in the last few days, dry conditions, I rarely wash my car I will check all the sensors are clean but it looks like a software glitch has started as quite a lot are getting it all at the same time. The message does not stay on just flashes on for second or two and off.

NickV90 the car is designed to revert to comfort mode every time you start the car, this forces stop start to be activated for emmission control. You have to have make a drive mode choice or via sensus to to take this off but it will "always" go back to comfort mode with stop start activated every time you turn off engine and restart.
