That's only trade in price, you want full retail price remember.

A couple of years back, I had my XC70 written off by another XC70 ironically. Fortunately, my dashcam footage showed that the other driver was in the wrong so it was recorded on my policy as a no-fault claim and I also got the value of my excess back so I was in theory in the clear. I think at first renewal there was a slight increase and then the following year it dropped by over £100. What Ive decided to do is stick with my current insurers (Admiral) until 5 years is up as they know my claims history and are not penalising me as a different company may do.

Hope you get it sorted ok. It looks like it was a lovely car with lots of extra goodies that you may struggle to find on a replacement.

See what they offer you you may be pleasantly surprised. If you car was kept in good order and not dirty or scruffy you should get a fair price from any decent insurer. And you should be able to fine a comparable car although you may have to travel. Good luck with claim and hope you get sorted OK.

Good luck with your negotiations. Glad the car did what it was supposed to and protected you, to the extent you want to replace like for like. I think homework and keeping your nerve are the main requirements, often they know that a person needs the cash to get another car and so play on need to settle quickly...

And good luck with the search - sure you will find something suitable. A vote for the D5 here, love mine for dog hauling and stuff.

.

Wish I could get a D5, but what I may get back will probably not cover it and don't won't to pay more money out when I shouldn't have to. Actually looking at other comparable estate cars that fall in the predicted budget that I may or may not get.

I saw a D5 at a garage the other day.... Walnut steering wheel and cream dash board.... Who does this?

I baught my current xc70 from them and found them very fair, cash deal so no HP nor trade in and the towbar and spare wheel I wanted included in the price which was a grand less than local cars.
They may be 6 hours drive away but I would certainly look at them again if I change the car.

As to insurance companies you will have a fight to get a decent deal in my experience. When my 460 was written off I baught a banger just to keep me mobile as the wife was in hospital after the crash 60 miles away while we discussed the deal with the insurance company.
Refused first 2 offers and had to reluctantly accept the third as they were threatening to walk away and let me deal with the other insurance company myself. Their final offer was top book in glasses guide, however it was the buying in price not the selling and there was a big difference.
As it was a no fault claim I was peed off to say the least.

Paul.
