If you get online quotes always get it early, as in two or three weeks before it's due and save it as a quote. Quotes given a few days before the required start date can be higher!

I have just got a new quote from my insurers Admiral of £261.31 for my new XC60, for both my cars @ £481.72. But what surprised me was the fact that they don't replace the car if it's written off in the 1st year, but only pay out market value.
I've found insurance companies that do, but the cheapest is LV @ £320 a difference of £60.
Have decided to go with Admiral and also buy a 5 years gap insurance @ £295 this will cover me from day one of the new car. As I intend on keeping this car it seems that it might be the best way forward.
Your thoughts are appreciated.

Are you saying that in year five you would end up with the invoice value for a write off. Personally I would ask for a copy of the agreement and read the fine print. If you are then happy it sounds good to me.
look out for " we will pay up to the invoice value" etc.

I've just been reading the agreement, and the way I see it, is if I take out gap insurance from day one it will cover the difference between the insurance payout and the original invoice cost. I also spoke to someone on the phone and he reassured me that it had unlimited level of cover.
If anyone is interested it I with Gap insurance 123. It will cost me £295.12 for 5 years cover., about £60 per year.
You can read the information for your self.

Is your GAP insurance return to invoice or replacement vehicle cover.

I paid £410 for 5 year vehicle replacement. This means that if my vehicle is written off with in 5 years they will pay whatever is necessary on top of my normal car insurance to get me a same spec. XC90.

Retun to invoice is just that. So if your car is written off in year 5 you would have to pay any increases in list price above your invoice price for the car at that time.

Mine was through ALA, whose customer service agent was very helpful.

It claims that it will pay out the balance for a replacement vehicle of the same type, even if its been superseded.
I've only ever made one insurance claim back in 1998, that was because a hare decided to commit suicide and damaged my Peugeot 406 bumper, so I hoping I won't be needing it, but you just never know!
Hopefully it will give me peace of mind for 5 years.

No - from what you have said yours is Return to Invoice so you will need to find the difference between your invoice price at time of purchase and the list price of the new replacement vehicle.

Mine on the other hand will pay for the full cost of the replacement no matter how much Volvo might have increased the price in the meantime. £115.00 difference I premium could save me £000s if I have to claim.

Like all insurance you are only grateful you spent the money when you have to claim.

My gap insurance is called (Combined Invoice & Replacement )
It will pay out the cost of a full New replacement vehicle, but this only applies if you purchase the vehicle from new your self. I think you have take out the gap insurance within 6 weeks of purchase, I maybe wrong on the 6 week timetable, but since I'm going to be purchasing the policy from day one, I will be covered.

My insurance quote has just come through. Car a year older, no claims and it has increased by 42%. Spoke to them and they could not justify the increase.
Looks like I am going to need to do some work finding the best deal.
