Question whic power steering fluid

Hi, Forgive me because I know this subject has been aired before but I am non the wiser.
I have a V70 manufactured in March 1998. On this forum Pentosin CHF 11S has been said to be the correct fluid but in the Volvo workshop manual [ not Haynes ] Dextron ATF is recommended. One is red and the other green.
Is anyone please able to give me a definitive answer please. thanks jack

Simple........look in the reservoir and see what colour it is?

USE the same colour otherwise they can react and block the system.

It used to be red until the midish 90's then volvo went green and it is still green . you can use either in your system but if changing to green a good chance to flush it out , The later green has better low temperature performance .

I may be muddying the waters a little here, but my V70-a P1 first reg Jan 2000-has red power steering fluid.I don't know if this has been previously changed or not but regardless I've had or noticed any problems with it.

Hi 960kg, I tried that and its black. Looks like I should empty and re-fill. Still not sure as opinions differ.

General rule of thumb...

Reservoir on the pump - Red Dextron based ATF will do fine.

Reservoir mounted remotely on the inner wing - Green Pentosin stuff

So has my mums 2005 V70 because when i changed the rack I flushed it out with ATF as it is megga cheap in comparison

Leaky racks also seem a little common since Volvo changed the oil spec....

No it isn't cheap in comparison.
2 litres of the correct CHF (for a 2005) is less than £20 and 1 litre can be had for under a tenner so why use the wrong stuff to save a couple of quid, in fact, why use the wrong stuff for any reason?

There is no wrong stuff really , but volvo have not used the red for many years and only sell the green for all systems ..
