I've yet to read of a pas failure on a CHF system maintained system when regular CHF changes are made.
There are many instances ATF being used in failing systems though.

My point is that if Volvo recommends Volvo fluid and Volvo fluid is CHF, why use inferior ATF?

Why is it inferior?

Volvo apparently only changed to CHF due to ATF freezing in extreme conditions, The 2005 car I changed the fluid in lives in the south of France so I figure freezing isn't going to be an issue!

MadMan

How the devil are you !

Sorry I did not get back to you re roof rails. June and July were manic, mid July I decided I was going to Lanzy after all which I did 3 days after making the decision to go. Had to deal with the usual crap upon my return 3 weeks ago and life now under some degree of normality.

The R failed its MOt in spectacular fashion, clearly a bent MOT on when I bought her ( as was the Note ) and in order to save some $ I am waiting for a pair of Nivomats to ship out from the states, been sitting in Michigan for 3 1/2 weeks ! On the upside Winston the T5 is back on the road and what a beaut she is !

Will get back to you soonish if rails still avail ?

Use what you want. I'm not here to have a technical discussion about a non recommended product so if ATF isn't inferior, perhaps you should ask Volvo why they no longer use it or recommend it?

Your reason earlier for using ATF was that is was mega cheaper than correct CHF, which it isn't.
It's an odd way to make a non existent cost saving.

I can get 5 litres of ATF for under £20

Sounds cheaper than your quote of 2 litres for under £20

Although when I looked a litre of CHF was closer to £15 a litre....

£16 for 2 litres
Your system has a 1 litre capacity so you've saved about £4 using a non recommended product.

Congratulations.

Says the guy with ATF in a CHF system.....
The fact we disagree is a huge relief to me.

What do we disagree on?

You appear to have a made a few claims in the knowledge that you think you know what I need without knowing any of the facts....

Anyway, I will leave you to your keyboard warrior antics as I have better things to be doing
