Default C70 Roof Damage

I have a C70 that appears to be suffering from this exact problem

https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/c70_soft_roof_damage.shtml

I've called every convertible roof repair place I can find and none of them seem to want to help beyond "you need a new roof". If you stop the roof just at the right point and pull in that strap you can see that it would fix the problem, but I lack the skills to fix this myself.

Has anyone fixed this or had this fixed and have any more detailed info to share? I'd be very grateful.

Find a yacht sail manufacturing/repair company near you, they'll be able to help.

Now that is an interesting idea that had not occurred. Sadly the car is currently in the Midlands!

I have the same issue with mine, although mine had actually worn right through the outer layer when I bought the car. I didn't realise it was because of that strap, I thought it may have been a bad crash repair or something like that. I ended up just modifying the bump stop so it doesn't rub anymore.

I always meant to take it to a sail repair company somewhere but never got round to it, let us know how you get on.

What did you do to the bump stop? That might br easier to do without messing up the roof!

Just trimmed it back with a Dremel. Thought I had a photo somewhere but I can't find it. If I remember correctly it's the metal bracket that it catches on mainly so I just cut it back and put a bit of paint on to stop it rusting. Maybe weakened the bracket a little bit but it's pretty strong anyway and it doesn't take much weight. Must have been a couple of years ago when I did it but I haven't had any problems and it's stopped the hood rubbing.

I got the idea from another member so I know I'm not the only one that has done this.

Great Mike. That sounds like a job worth doing as mine is starting to show signs of wear and did not understand why.

To be honest, if I'd known at the time the issue was because of that elastic strap then I may have tried to sort that out instead of cutting back the bracket. But that does seem to have done the job and probably is an easier fix.

Knew I had a photo somewhere! Didn't take a before shot by the looks of it but this is how mine finished up.
