WTD: Rear tow eye
I'd like a rear towing eye that I believe would have been fitted to most 240s originally. That is, a eye for pulling the vehicle onto a tow truck, or out of a gravel trap, not a tow bar.
It seems that most 240s have since had a tow bar fitted (which occupys the same mounting point) and the towing eyes lost forever, like mine. Anyone have one? My back-up plan is to make one, but it's always easier to buy than make. |

I've got one from a 74MY 145. I think they're the same.

I'm not sure. The part number is 1203289 which is listed here as being 240 or 260.
https://usparts.volvocars.com/p/Volv...1/1203289.html Have you tried it on a 240? |

I got one for myself from a forum member who was clearing out spares. Sorry I'm keeping it, in case my tow bar is ever removed.
Your best hope is to: 1. Watch the for sale part of the 240 section of the forum. Look for anyone breaking a 240 or clearing out spares? But yes, most will have had tow bars fitted and the towing eye is gone. 2. Look on eBay for sellers breaking 240s. Some of them advertise a wheel nut. and ask them if they have a towing eye. But yes, most of their cars will have had tow bars fitted. BUT you only need to find one towing eye. You do have a chance to find one. Good luck. . |

No, I haven't but I was under the impression that the rear chassis rails and tow bar mounting points for the later 140/164 were carried over onto the 200-series. However, I could be wrong. If you PM me your e-mail address I can send you a photo and we can take it from there. |

Hi
If you're not worried about keeping the originality of the factory towing eye, you could use a more modern screw in type eye & weld up a threaded piece to bolt in the stock location. This is what I need to do on the front of mine, but most screw in eyes have some made up screw thread that is impossible to match. However, according to episode 27 of project binky - about half way through - there is a Peugeot/Citroen towing eye that has a M12 x 175 thread & they use a threaded spacer as the mount. Tim |

I've also been watching project Binky where they made the towing eyes. My family think I'm strange for finding it interesting.
Making one like that is a possibility, but for now I've going to try the 145 piece from Kev. I can't find a part number for the 145 one, but it seems like it is identical. |
