1988 340 1.4DL Belt Screech
Hi folks,
Over the past few days i noticed my 340 which is now my regular drive to work make screeching sound from the drive belts, this happens mainly when its cold and once car is warmed up the noise dispears,While car is cold the noise increass in pitch when lights etc are switched on.Would this indicate a problem with the belt or the alternator?,I am currently trying to find alternator belt but seems to be abit difficult. TIA Mo

belt
Usually this indicates the belt is loose or has gone hard and needs replacing.

Thanks again Paul,I managed to renew belt now was actually quite easy to find from local parts factors,Euro car parts and Volvo dont seem to stock many bits for the 340 anymore.Very easy job renewing the belt,While working on belt noticed a smell of petrol on checking found one of the 2 pipes leading into fuel pump leaking,It had split at the point where there is a copper tube fitted.Thankfully had loads of spare fuel pipe and got it sorted in minutes,After oil and filter change, new rotor arm etc cars back to its usual self.
