Default Engine System Service

I am giving my V70 a good clean and going over before trading in and when I start the engine it comes up the good old yellow triangle and "ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE".

Now as luck would have it and been there before I popped the bonnet and removed the engine cover and "Quell Surprise" the swirl arm had popped off the actuator.

Started several times and all is ok however the warning is still on, is this a 30 mile reset or does it need the garage??

Im sure the last time this happened it cleared after a good run??

I need to get this sorted before I hand over on Tuesday as I would prefer to be completely honest with the garage - future owner.

Thanks for no help or assistance in my time of need.

For future information this was not an auto reset like a Maf fault as it was triggered by emissions. Volvo Aberdeen were fantastic and tool me on as an emergency on Monday afternoon. Gave it a full diagnostic check and reset for £60 sheets.

Feel much happier I have handed over an A1 car that will stand its future owner well.

You'll probably get more feedback if you include more details about the type of V70 (phase 1, 2 or 3), what engine variant and what mileage. Posting in relevant section for your vehicle will probably yield more expertise than the general motoring section. Glad to hear you've got all sorted for the next owner. A lot of folk wouldn't bother going the extra mile like that on a trade in, so fair play to you.

I thought it would have worked the same for all d5 variants so apologise I was non specific.

Due to urgency I was trying to widen my net.

Yes even garage was surprised as I had to defer collection.

I had a persistent, non specific "Engine Service Required" recently but with no yellow triangle and no fault codes or loss of performance.
All engine management figures appeared in spec too.
It hadn't had a good run for a couple of months so took it for a good long blast and back was the message the next day...... but it hasn't appeared since so still in the dark really as to the original cause.
I read your problem but thought "give it good thrash" wasn't very helpful considering your urgency. Plus yours is a 185 with extra bits.
Just read this back and not even sure what I'm trying to say.
Glad you're sorted anyway.

Do the volvo diesels have issues with their EGR systems? We just got a 10 plate diesel xc70 for my wife and I'm hoping a good blast of motorway for a few hundred miles every other week will keep it clean?

Currently got 65K on the odometer on our 2010/11 and not had any problems.
