Default Best OBD2 reader/controller?

I used to use VCDS/Vagcom for my VW/Audi cars.
What should I be looking at for my XC90?

Thanks,
Lee

Unfortunately for anything newer than about 2015 you can't use the stand alone VIDA kit that you find on eBay. You can potentially use the adapters, but you need to use the "online" VIDA system for which you need a subscription.

It used to be quite easy to get an online sub, just needed a VAT number and a trading entity, but I think its looked into a bit more now.

A standard reader will give you basic stuff, but none of the specific modules etc. I imagine.

I am very interested in this too. Because I don't trust my dealer to tell me all that's going on with the car. I would also like to do DIY stuff like rear brakes. Its expensive car and yes dealer doesn't charge THAT much to do stuff. But I'm type of person who LIKES doing his car rather than take it to third party. I don't trust them much

My regular garage has a Foxwell Auto Master Pro and that can read all the non standard controllers that the SPA volvos have and it has some extended functions like putting the parking brake into service mode.
